elbMUN Conference in April 2021 will be taking place online due to the ongoing pandemic of Covid-19. Therefore, the registration process will be opened from 1st February to 15th March 2021.
We are currently working on the possibilities we can offer for an online conference and believe that the next elbMUN will nevertheless be a unique experience for all participants.
Even though the conference will be taking place online, you can create your own "conference room" with other delegates from your council at home. But: please always make sure that you observe the current Covid-19 rules in your country.

The success of a MUN conference does not only depend on motivated participants and well-chosen topics, but most notably on the Chairpersons.
How to Apply
If you are interested in chairing one of the committees at elbMUN Online Conference 2021 and you
- have already gained experience with MUN in the past
- are familiar and comfortable in conducting and running debates
- are proficient in English...
We look forward to receiving your application before 01th March, using this form (available from 21th January).
After you have submitted in your application the Secretariat will contact you and provide you with feedback on your application. If taken into closer consideration, the Secretariat will schedule a Skype interview. The final decision will be made once all interviews have been conducted. You will then be informed immediately afterwards.
We kindly ask you to refrain from sending additional documents other than requested in the form.
Chairpersons preside over the different committees and ensure the smooth running of the discussion.
A Chair’s main duties are to
- Ensure that delegates follow the Rules of Procedure
- Open and close each session
- Limit speaking time
- Accord the right to speak
- Put questions to a vote
- Announce decisions
Along with clarifying the rules and facilitating the flow of the committee sessions the Chair also helps to set the atmosphere of the simulation. Well-run committees are not only purposeful and effective, but most of all fun!
We request every Chairperson to ensure they have a fully functional laptop with LAN-connection as well as HDMI-Video support.

- UN Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee (GA3) - Climate and Displacement
- UN Environmental Assembly (UNEA) - Synthetic Biology (1) / Deforestation and Destruction of Rainforest worldwide (2)
- UN North Atlantic Council (NAC) - China Strategy (1) / Cyber Defense (2)
Every council will be run by two Chairs. Please indicate your prefered council in your application. We will not take generalized applications into consideration.

For this year’s elbMUN we are expecting up to 100 participants from all over the world – with your couch you can be part of this international and intercultural event!
We aim to organise private accommodations for as many participants as possible. Therefore we need YOU and your couch! The participants are busy with elbMUN, guided tours and trips and will stay at your place for sleeping only. Whether you can offer a couch, a sleeping pad or a spare bed, your guest will thank you for your hospitality. Moreover, each host will get an invitation for the elbMUN-prom “Dancing in the MUNlight”.

1. How can I participate?
You can take part in the conference as
- a delegate
- a chairperson
- a part of the organizing staff

2. When does the elbMUN Conference take place?
The elbMUN Conference 2019 will take place from 23 - 25 April 2021. Additionally, on 17th April 2021 we will have some introduction events planned that will help you to get to know the elbMUN procedures as well as the topic you are going to debate.
3. Where will the elbMUN Conference be held?
elbMUN Conference 2021 will be held online. Detailed information will follow after the application.
4. How old do I have to be?
You have to be at least 18 years old in order to participate in elbMUN Conference 2019. However, it is possible to participate if you are a minor in terms of the german federal law, as long as you bring a declaration of consent signed by a parent or any person of custody. The form must indicate that they are aware of what kind of event you will be taking part in. They must assent your participation in our evening program. Please note that elbMUN cannot be held responsible for any injuries, accidents or similar and does not provide any particular insurance for minors.
5. Do I have to be a university student to participate?
No, you do not have to. We warmly welcome individuals from any curricular background and would like to especially encourage non-university delegates to apply. If you still go to school, contact your teacher or principal to be exempt from the regular lessons – our experience shows that schools are usually very cooperative and support our project.
6. When can I sign up?
The registration board will be accessible from beginning of February to end of march.

(and after that from 20 February to 23 March for the second time. Please note that we may accept applications by individuals without German or Schengen residence permit (=visa applicants) only for the first round of registrations. This is to maximize your chances to run through the permission process successfully as it may take up to 10 weeks.
The earlier your registration the better the chances you will assigned your preferred country.
7. How do I register?
The registration process is divided into 8 easy steps.
First, you will have to set up your personal account with your email address and a password. This account allows you to leave the registration process anytime and resume it later by logging into our website with your email address and password.
Second, after creating your delegate account, we will send you an email to confirm your email address. If you did not receive a confirmation email, please double check your email address. If it is correct, be sure to check your Spam Folder as well. Please note that it sometimes takes several hours for an email to be received!
Once you confirmed it, we ask you in the third step to enter your personal information. Please note that this data cannot be edited later, so make sure that you enter everything correctly. If you want us to find a couch for you, to help you with your visa or if you are a part of a delegation, please be sure to check the respective boxes.
If you are part of a delegation, you may specify it in the fourth step. There you can either create a new delegation or join one. Please see FAQ #9 for more information.
In step five we will ask you to pay your participation fee. Please see FAQ #10 for more information.
After we received your participation fee you may proceed to select your preferred country and committee combinations in the sixth step. You have to pick three combinations to be considered for. We will try to give you your first preference but in order give everyone in the conference a country and committee he or she is interested in, we need two alternatives.
Once you chose your preferences you will have to wait for us in step seven to approve you as a delegate for elbMUN Online-Conference 2021 by assigning you to one of your selected country and committee combinations. This may take a while since we are waiting for some applications to be completed, the first delegates will be approved in mid-February when the first registration period is over. The sooner you complete your application, the better the chances that your preferred country/committee combination is still available!
In the eighth step, your application is final and you are a delegate at elbMUN Online-Conference 2021! You can then see your status, download studyguides, rules of procedure, old resolutions and more, upload your position-paper and see other members of your committee and delegates of your country.
8. What is a delegation?
A delegation is usually considered as a group of delegates representing the same country in different committees. Its purpose is to link the delegates of one country and enable them to closely work together in order to find their country's general position on all relevant topics as well as to coordinate the individual stances of each delegate in his/her respective committee.
At elbMUN however, we also welcome delegations whose members represent different countries in different committees. That way we want to also encourage bigger groups to register as a delegation and share the experience of preparing for the conference together. Therefore we offer for delegations of 5 or more people the chance to pay the early bird fee as well in the second registration period.
Delegations can have a very important impact on the development of a MUN because with their coordinating function they contribute to a conference as realistic as possible. If you decide to register as a delegation representing one country in time, your application for this country's seats will be given priority over other applications.
9. How can delegations register?
Delegations are most welcome to participate in elbMUN Conference 2021. However, every member of a delegation has to register individually first. In Step 3 every applicant can select to be part of a delegation. Check that option in order to create or join a delegation in Step 4.
When creating a new delegation, you will be asked to name it first. You will then be given a code and the opportunity to send emails to other people to join your delegation. Once you go to the next step, you will receive an email confirming your delegation and restating the access code. All people invited will receive the name and code as well, so they can join your delegation once they reached Step 4 in their registration process.
When joining a delegation, you just enter the delegation's name and access code. Both should have been supplied to you by the creator of the delegation or in an invitation email. We would also welcome you to contact email@example.com for further communication.
10. Is there a participation fee?
This year's participation fee is 5 Euros (€) in Registration Phase I (until 20 February) (and X Euros in Registration Phase II, but it won't be a second phase this year, but we usually do have a one a little bit more expensive) . We do not make any profit at all and all our team works 100% voluntarily, however, some contribution is necessary in order to provide you with the experience you are looking for.
If you need a visa to participate at elbMUN Online-Conference 2021 we will accept payment in cash in Dresden on the first day of the conference. Our Visa Team will contact you during your registration process to give you more details.
Please recognize that you will be provided with food and drinks during the conference and if needed, free accommodation for four nights. Furthermore, we do not charge any fees for social activities, such as barbecues, band evenings or our ball and we will ensure that you can use Dresden's public transport for free.
Please understand that we cannot return the money in case you decide not to participate. It is however accepted to appoint someone else to take your place at the conference.
11. When do I have to pay?
Once you reached Step 5 of your registration, we will ask you to transfer the money to our bank account as soon as possible. You may proceed to Step 6 only if we received your participation fee.
12. Do I have to take care of the accommodation and food myself?

The participation fee will include a daily warm vegetarian (vegan if wished) lunch at the Saxon State Parliament.
We will be able to organize private, and thus free, accommodation with staff members and friends for a limited number of participants. This means that you will stay with one of us, not in a hostel. Unfortunately, as our capacity is limited, the remaining participants will have to organize accommodation themselves. There are several good and cheap hostels in Dresden (for information, see below). In recent years, we could provide everybody with a couch.
During the process of registration, you will be asked if you need a place to sleep. We will tell you as soon as possible if we could organize a couch for you. If you are from Dresden and would like to accommodate one of the participants, please sign up in the "Got-A-Couch"-Tab above!

14. What do I have to do if I need a visa to come to Germany?
Unfortunately, it is quite difficult to receive a visa invitation for the Schengen area.
However, we will do our very best to support you in the visa application by the means of invitation letters and by providing an address of the reference.
